Open a photo. When openedinPhotoshop,which will appear asa background layer. The first thing todobefore applyingthe finishing touchesisto crop the photo, andeliminate anything thatthreatens theimage.

This imageusingtherule of thirdsis clipped.Thegeneral ideais that the imageis divided into three, horizontally and vertically.Important elements ofthe image mustbe at ornear the lines.
You can seethe tops of themountainsare almostaligned withthe vertical lines, while thesky and treesare defined byhorizontal lines.It is estimated thatthis makes it moreinterestingto have everythingcenteredimage.
Press Enter tocrop the image.

SelecttheHealing Brushtooltones(J). Use itto clean partsof the image thatis not trimmed, but they are adistraction.For the imageof our test, we will prune treesinthelower left,lower rightand upper right.

Method2 of 2:Cleaning and Adjusting

Duplicatethe background layer. Right click onthe background layerand chooseDuplicate Layer from themenu,or drag thebottom layer of theNew Layer iconandPhotoshopwill automatically create aduplicate layer.

Set theblending modeto Soft Light. This canmake the imagetoo dark,but it is onlyan intermediate step.Once theblending modeis set, select Control-I (Command+I)to invert the image, orselect Settings from theImage menu andselect Invert.

Use thehigh pass filter. Inthe Filters menu, select More...> High Pass... Make surethe Preview boxis checked,set theRadius slidertotaste.Note thatthepicture will changewith a niceeffect, soft. Theradioreally depends on theimage resolution. Ifit isa very high resolution, you will usemore ifit isa radio imageoflow resolution.Let yourtasteguide you.

Createlevelsadjustment layer. Withthe Backgroundcopylayer selected, click the iconin the levels ofthe Settings window.
Clickingthe Auto buttonautomaticallywill balancethe levelsbetweenthe brightest partof the image,and darker.You can usethe sliders toadjust theimage, oruse acustom fitat the topof the Properties window.

Create acurvesadjustment layer. Now click onthe Settings tab, click the Curves(right next to the iconof levels)icon.This allows you tofine tune theimage contrast.
Click aquarter of the heightof the lineand pullit down a bit. Click againto3.4 of theheight of the lineand pull upa little.This shouldform a sort of"S", andyour imageshould be muchmore dramatic.

Changethe blending modeoftheadjustment layerlight curves. This preventscontrastaffectsthe color informationof the image.

Merge Layers. In the menu onthe Layers window, select Merge Layers, or pressCtrl-Alt-Shift-E (Shift-Option-Command-E on the Mac)to createa new layer thatcombines the informationin a single layer.

Select theDodgetool (O). TheDogeandengraving toolsare idealfor carrying outthe highlights andshadowsof an image.Atthe top ofthe Photoshop window, adjust the controls as follows: for theDodgetool, set the exposureto 5%,and the chain ofthe highlights.
Setyour brushto a sizesmall enough(depending on the resolution of the image), anduse theDodgetoolto stimulatethe highlights. It is ideal forcarrying outthe detailsof an image,withoutfurther clarifiesthings
TheBurn tooldarkensthings,and is used inthe shadows togive moredetailed images.
